Wrapping up 2018
What a fascinating year 2018 has been. So much has happened in Malaysia and around the world that the year has been anything but dull. I have to confess that my mind is in full-on Christmas mode now (Christmas is a-comin'... woo-hoo!), so I'm finding it a bit hard to focus and point out the many significant moments of the year. But off the cuff, I would say that an absolute highlight for me was watching the FIFA World Cup matches. Yeah, I know... me and football, right? How quickly my unfocused mind can zero in on football. 😄 Seriously though, such a treat to see France lifting the trophy in the end, plus Croatia and England doing so well overall. And hey, how about Malaysian politics, huh? Not that politics is my thing but 2018 was an incredible year for Malaysia. Historic for sure. On the personal front, taking a look back, 2018 has been a year of various highs and lows for me. A mixed bag for sure and I'm not really sure how I feel about that. But when all is said and done, I keep coming back to my blog, which is a definite high. Pinch me because I almost can't believe I went live in January. That was twelve months ago, yet at the same time, it kind of feels like yesterday. Funny how an entire year can just zip by when you're not noticing. You know, in the beginning when I was still just setting up the blog, I had two main concerns. The first was frequency of publishing. I looked up all sorts of advice with regards to that, and while I knew I needed to be consistent, I also didn't want to be overambitious. I felt it was important to pace myself and try to strike a balance between being present online and being present in real life. Too often and too easily, the lines get blurred, so I decided that achieving a healthy balance would be key. And the saying, "Don't try to run before you can walk" was definitely on my mind, and maybe I'm not alone in that thought. My second concern had to do with content. I didn't want it to be hollow and unoriginal, and I wanted to make sure that I wrote about things I genuinely like and love. So the goal was simple right from the start: publish two posts a month, write as well as I can and see how it goes. Well, here we are now at post #24. It may not be much and I know I still have a lot to learn, but perhaps I can take what I've done so far as a small achievement. My goal moving forward is to try to grow and improve the blog, so wish me luck! You know what else? Since embarking on this journey, a fundamental thing I've learned is that blogging is a creative process. And when you're creating something, you need support. You really do. That's where you guys come in and I can't begin to tell you how much your support means to me. The fact that you would want to read what I have to say... that means a whole lot. It reminds me, despite my initial fears, why I even created this blog in the first place - because I love to write. It reaffirms that I have a voice, albeit a tiny one. And it encourages me to keep going. So thank you so very, very much. I'm also immensely grateful to Best Western i-City Shah Alam for collaborating with me this year. Super fun! And I look forward to more of such hookups!
In just three short days, it'll be Christmas. Yay! Just three sleeps to go! Can you believe it? Just thinking about that makes me so happy. I hope you guys are kicking back and having a great time counting down to the big day. I'll be celebrating with loved ones as I'm sure you'll be, too. Well, just like the presents, it's time to wrap up 2018. Until my next post, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🎁🎄🎅🏻
