Kluang Station's Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken
Nasi Lemak, Malaysia's national dish, is one of my all-time favourite dishes. Hands down. I was craving Nasi Lemak the other day, and since my friend and I were near Tropicana City Mall, we decided to go to Kluang Station's outlet there. It was lunchtime and the restaurant was fairly packed, but luckily, we didn't have to wait too long to be served. To be frank, I've never had Nasi Lemak at Kluang Station before because I've kind of always held the perception that Kluang Station was better known for their other dishes. I just knew I wanted to satisfy my craving, that was it. As long as their Nasi Lemak tasted OK, I would be happy. But when my dish arrived... boy, was I surprised. It turned out to be better than just OK. In fact, it was actually really good. So now I've changed my mind about Kluang Station's Nasi Lemak. I'm a fan now.
So anyway... I had the Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken. It came with a whole chicken leg that was tender and juicy on the inside and crispy-skinned on the outside, which is exactly how fried chicken should be. And at RM16.90* a plate, it was well worth it to get so much meat with the dish. The rice itself was soft and fluffy with a lovely infusion of coconut milk and pandan aromas. And the other accompaniments on the plate (i.e. spicy sambal, roasted peanuts, fried anchovies and hard-boiled egg) all did their job at providing the punch, crunch and texture you'd expect from eating Nasi Lemak. In my opinion, this dish was cooked to perfection. It was well-seasoned and really aromatic, just as Nasi Lemak should be. So kudos to the chef for getting it so spot on.
I completed my meal with a refreshing glass of Iced Lemon Tea (RM4.35*).
As for my friend, she had the Salted Fish Fried Rice (RM7.30*) and a large Black Coffee (RM4.15*) and she gave a thumbs up for those as well.
We'll definitely be back for more Nasi Lemak and other dishes, and we hope the food will be just as good the next time and the service just as fast.
Kluang Station is open daily and has outlets at most major shopping malls across the country.
